Lost in the Midwest: A Most Interesting Building

The E. T. Greiner/ B. A. Hemley building in Columbus Grove, Ohio. This 1890 structure is wonderful for several reasons. This design is most unusual and the craft required to execute the design is first rate. The bricks used are not the more common red but something different. Brick masons that helped build this building were very skilled. The detail is amazing. In addition, the use of positive and negative space in the design is most unusual. For me, this is the most interesting building I have so far seen. (click on image to enlarge)

Toy Camera: Color or Black and White?

Yesterday's post compared the same image presented in color and then in black and white. Again today, the same comparison. As before, the color photograph is a documentation of the subject-the way the camera recorded what was in its view. The strength of this photograph is its color.

A Way of Seeing

This is the Convoy grain elevator as recorded in color. While this is a documentation of the structure, I feel that a stronger presentation is possible.

The same image is now converted to a black and white image. This representation , instead of displaying the varying color values, shows more clearly, the tones and form of the structure. (click on images to enlarge)
