Iowa State Bank and Trust building. David Plowden, in his "Small Town America" writes: "Bank buildings, whether the banks themselves have failed, often survive as the most durable structures in town." In West Liberty, Buelitos-Mexican American Food-recycles the bank building for its restaurant.
Closed Amber Mutual Creamery. Dairy cows are few and far between in this part of Iowa. Corn and beans along with beef cattle, hogs and chickens are the mainstays of local farming.

The next few days will be spent in Redkey, Indiana. A forgotten community that seems to be in the process of changing from the usual small town retail stores to a collection of coffee shops, bed and breakfast, and art galleries.
