At the Door

Becoming a rather rare sight. With more and more information on line, the daily newspaper at your door is a bit different. (click on image to enlarge)

Back Home in Indiana: Happy Days Records

Greens Fork, Indiana.

Don't be put off by the primative signage. Inside are rooms filled with stacks of phonograph records. If you are searching for that special record - pack a lunch, get to Happy Days and start looking. (click on images to enlarge)

Looking Then Seeing

This photograph came about after walking the streets of New Castle, Indiana (see April 12, 2011 post). I had spent several hours photographing. This is what the scene really looked like. The color is true. The scale is correct. A document. After reviewing the image a few days later, I began to see what it was that had caught my attention. It was not the color nor the scale. It was the shape and form. Shape and form are best shown in black and white images rather than color work. Color says real. Color "gets in the way". Color looks pretty. Black and white suggests departure from reality. Black and white allows the maker/viewer to suggest other layers of meaning.

This is what I saw while walking about the streets of New Castle, Indiana. Not a record. A presentation of what was felt and later seen. (click on images to enlarge)

Back Home in Indiana: Changes

In September 2009 the New Castle Open Arms storefront church was up and running. Seemed to be a well used location.
Today, the church is gone and building remodeled into several separate storefronts. In documentary photography it is important to return to previous locations. Things often change and new work can be done. (click on images to enlarge)

Back Home in Indiana: Mrs. Beardsley's Millinery

Along a main street in Alexandria. Once again - as elsewhere in Indiana - many vacant retail buildings. Between the shopping centers/strip malls, and economy downturn, these are hard times for downtown locations. (click on image to enlarge)

Richmond, Indiana: Second Chance Ministries

Yet, another Richmond storefront church. From their web site we have the following: " Second Chance Ministries Church is a small intimate church with the heart and mind of Christ. Our belief in God does allow second chances to all who believe in Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin, came not to live but to die for our sins, paid the penalty, then rose again on the third day".
