Pork Fest

The W---- family has been selling these carmel apples at the Eaton, Ohio Pork Fest for over 30 years. As part of the extended family-daughter married a W---- son -I have been working/helping the last few years. These are a few of the results of my placing 1500 sticks into apples. Everyone in the family has a job. Some dip, some prepare the carmel, some cleanup, some greet the customers, some hand over the carmel apple, some take the money. The family members come from several different parts of the country, a few from nearby locations and now grand children are returning from college studies to enjoy/and work with parents and grand parents. Tomorrow another -at least- 1500 sticks to be placed in apples.

I Understand

No image today. Sunday afternoon the remains of Hurricane Ike hit East Central Indiana with 65-70mph winds. Many trees and electric/telephone wires down. Lost power here for 25 hours.
Finally restored around 4:30 his afternoon. Spent the morning outside moving huge tree branches off the yard, breaking up and packaging the smaller ones to be removed later. Chainsaw is a strong possibility tomorrow. Note-no major building damage and no flooding. While -Eastern Indiana not the Gulf Coast. I have a better understanding of their problems.

Downsize

With fuel around $4 per gallon I downsized from a small Toyota truck to a two door coupe car. Instead of 17 mpg now get close to 32 mpg.

3 for 1

Sold three cameras and replaced them with a Nikon D300. Don't need three cameras when one will do the job. The new camera is smaller and lighter with better image quality at high ISO sensitivity. Using this camera I have a better chance of stopping action in active indoor flash forbidden events including concerts, theatre productions and athletics.

Seeing Again

Next few postings will illustrate changes that have happened in the last few weeks. First, a new pair of glasses. It has been seven years since my eyes have been checked. Now near, far and up close objects are again in focus. Once again, I am able to use some of my manually focusing film cameras. These older cameras and lenses respond to subject matter in rather different and sometimes unique way. Not only am I seeing again, I am also able to produce a new/old type of image.
